N-2 Building Executive Function Into the School Day: An Intervention-Based Training (NEW!)

Presenter

Format and Time

  • In-Person Training: 2 hours (8:30-10:30)

Content

Executive function (EF) refers to self-goal directed behavior and is critical for students to succeed in many aspects of life. The best way to improve executive function is through practice, and not just lessons. But how do you do this with limited time in the day when there is so much to teach students? This short intervention-based training will guide participants through the practical process of implementing EF intervention in a school environment. This presentation will describe and show how, with support, teachers can easily incorporate EF awareness, practice, and development into their daily routines and lesson plans. Modeling, coaching, content training, and follow ups with teachers are critical for successful implementation. Videos and pictures of this intervention process occurring in a school will be shown in this training so participants can see the implementation being carried out.

Intended Audience

Any school personnel who work directly with students including teachers, counselors, and school psychologists

Participants Will

  1. Learn about the important role EF plays in helping children thrive in life.
  2. Understand how to design a practical and naturalistic process for EF implementation in school classrooms.
  3. Reinforce collaborative consultative skills with school personnel when implementing interventions in the school.
