R-10 Smart, Legal, Student-Centered Assessments (NEW!)

Presenter

Formats and Times

  • In-Person Training: 2 hours (8:30-10:30)
  • Live Webinar: 2 hours

Content

This training focuses on student-centered assessments and building learner profiles as supported by California Education Code and Assessment practices rather than only product and score-based assessments. Being efficient and strategic, interpreting vs just reporting, doing more with less, blending all sources of information, and defending assessments will be discussed with supporting examples. The content and examples are geared to school psychologists and psychoeducational assessments, but the concepts apply to all who assess. Incorporating California Education Code and diagnostic assessment practices within one's overall process helps to increase the report's legal defensibility. Participants will see how, using this process, one's report can remain student-centered, educational and informative. In addition to being used in one's assessment report, such information and wording may become part of consultations with others.

Intended Audience

Examples are geared to school psychologists, but administrators and anyone who conducts assessments and uses California Ed Code could benefit

Participants Will

  1. Learn to conduct student-focused assessments using multiple sources of information beyond just the scores.
  2. Review of the verbiage and guidelines in California Education Code that relate to the assessment process.
  3. Application of California Education Code to the assessment process and within reports and consultations in an individualized and student-centered format.
